One of the reasons I started blogging was to talk about my art progress. My darling husband thinks as long as he can tell what the subject matter is, then it’s good.
In this piece, I used polychromos pencils. You’d think it would be easier than painting, but it’s not in my opinion. It takes so much longer than acrylic painting. They both need layers but my goodness, pencils take a lot more layers…and not just for colors but for coverage and blending and creating smoothness.
I think maybe I am not spending enough time on my work. I heard recently that when you don’t like the outcome, come back and work on it for another hour and it should improve. They felt that as a rule, artists did not spend enough time on pencil art. So I worked on a rose, didn’t like it, worked on it longer and made it darker. LOL
I worked on the tiger between eight to ten hours I think. I have heard of artists taking 40+ hours to finish a piece but I always figured it was larger than my little 8×10 or 9×12. But I do like using pencils and will continue to try and improve.
